Water

Water scarcity is a growing concern around the world. We need to improve water efficiency at each stage of the product lifecycle.

Our approach

wave-liquid iconTo grow our business sustainably we need to reduce the total amount of water used across our value chain, especially in regions where water availability is already under pressure from climate change. Our products rely on this precious resource: from the water needed to grow raw materials to the water needed to use our products. We agreed a water strategy in 2009 to reduce both our direct and indirect water footprint across our portfolio.

Water use by consumers

Every year, almost a third of households worldwide use Unilever laundry products – around 125 billion washes.

Water use in agriculture

Good water management is one of our 11 key sustainable farming practice indicators.
