If getting your children to eat fruit and vegetables results in tantrums and tears, it's time to get sneaky. A bit of clever trickery will help you help them to eat a healthier, more balanced diet – and they'll never know you fooled them!

Boy looking miserable at broccoliThe perfect blend

Try whipping up a colourful fruit smoothie by mixing together a small pot of natural yogurt or low-fat ice cream, a peeled and sliced banana, a handful of strawberries and a dash of honey in an electric blender. The resulting creamy pink concoction will be irresistible and loaded with vitamins.

A similar approach can work wonders with vegetables too. Puree a few carrots, some chopped onion and sweet red pepper together and stir the mix into a pan of Knorr Ragu pasta sauce. Serve it up with some penne and you've got a lump-free hot, healthy meal your kids will love. Our chefs have made things even easier in some countries with the launch of a ready-made Knorr Ragu for Kids range of smooth sauces, ready to eat after just 45 seconds in the microwave.

Dishes in disguise

Instead of mashed potato as a hearty side dish, try sweet potatoes or even soft-cooked cauliflower. Both are lower in carbohydrate and packed with vitamin C, great to boost the body's immune system.

Vegetarian sausages and beanburgers can also be a novel way of introducing veggies under the guise of altogether more sinful treats. Serve them grilled or oven cooked for the best result.

And Knorr's Vie Shots offer half the recommended daily amount of fruit and vegetables (400 grams worth) in just one little bottle. Made from 100% blended fruit and veg, and available in a variety of flavours including banana, pumpkin & kiwi, and apple, carrot & strawberry, they're a quick and easy way of getting a dose of pure goodness.
