Online salt calculator

Do you think that you eat salt moderately? It is difficult to tell how much salt we eat every day as much of it comes from manufactured foods.

Do you want to know more about your salt intake?

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends a daily intake of 5 grams but many people across the world eat as much as twice as that on an average day – between 9-12 grams.

To find out how close you are to the WHO-recommended guidelines, take a few minutes to take the salt test. This online calculator will give you an indication of your average daily salt intake.

Please note, different countries have different types of foods. We have developed two calculators so far, one based on foods available in the United Kingdom and one based on foods available in the Netherlands. Salt calculators for foods available in other countries are to be developed. In the meantime, we hope the calculators available offer a basic indication of sources of salt in your diet. The link to the calculator is on the right hand side.
